introduction:
since i've started my venture into audio electronics a very short time ago, i haven't stopped learning about new topologies. my first designs were tube amplifiers, and far from perfect - broken, in fact. but that's what the learning process is. (no, i haven't built anything yet.)

one huge hindrance to actually building any of the tube designs was their cost. one power transformer and two output transformers per channel, plus chokes dramatically increases the cost of a project. and those are just the magnetic components. so i did some more research.

lo and behold, the gainclone appeared. with its low component count and just one (step-down) transformer, i was able to realize a much lower "price/Watt" ratio, not to mention markedly lower THD+N than a tube amp.

design:
i decided to keep my design simple and follow the national datasheet quite closely. my design is non-inverting and uses +/-35VDC supply rails from an unregulated (high-capacitance) power supply. the power supply is fed by a 25Vrms+25Vrms 250VA toroidal transformer.
